47720971-woman-so-sad-and-cry

Young women in our nation and around the globe are in mourning today after the announcement that Christian athlete and heart throb Tim Tebow is engaged to former Miss Universe, Demi-Leigh Del-Peters. As news spread, churches began lowering their Christian flags to half mast, prayer meetings were formed to support the onslaught of heartbroken victims, and Christian bookstores everywhere prepared for a rush on sackcloth and ashes. In the Bible belt, where women were especially hopeful to snag Tebow, hospitals have reported an influx in cases of the vapors. WHY EVERYONE SHOULD EXPERIENCE A BROKEN HEART

Wesley from The Princess Bride got it right when he told his beloved Buttercup, “Life is pain, highness. Anyone who says differently is selling something.” Wesley understood that fairy-tale-dreams-come-true lives are fictional and that real life is hard. Very hard. MY NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCE WITH A HOT DOG

31300_RecipeImage_hot_dog_buns

It was a dark stormy night. Somewhere in the distance a marching band was playing La Cucaracha. Students dressed in ear muffs and mukluks walked in clusters around the field. And the scent of roasting frankfurters assailed my nostrils. Little did I know that on that night my perception of hot dogs would be forever changed. And it all started with Kenny Cox. THE LITTLE VOICE INSIDE EVERY WOMAN’S HEAD

listen-up

Many years ago I was introduced to a man who everyone said was “a godly man.” He was active in ministry at his church, went on many mission trips, talked continually about the Lord, and was warm and smiley and personable, and in my opinion, as slimy as all get out. AN INTROVERT’S STRUGGLE WITH CHURCH

39986

There are many definitions floating around for the word “introvert.”  Personally, I think of an introvert simply a person who struggles with social interaction. As an introvert myself, I  would rather have a root canal than face a new social situation. But for Christian introverts, the struggle is even more intense because of one key aspect of our lives.

Church. Continue reading “AN INTROVERT’S STRUGGLE WITH CHURCH”

WHY DISGRUNTLED HOMESCHOOLERS SHOULD HOMESCHOOL THEIR KIDS

Mother teaching her little child

More and more we are hearing stories about disgruntled homeschooled young adults bashing the homeschool movement. Because their own homeschooling experiences were less than ideal, these unhappy homeschoolers post articles in opposition to homeschooling, criticizing its leaders and methods, and declaring that they will never homeschool their own children.

And yet, they should. Continue reading “WHY DISGRUNTLED HOMESCHOOLERS SHOULD HOMESCHOOL THEIR KIDS”

“THE LORD TOLD ME…” OH, REALLY?

Pippin, his Playa name, chats on the phone with God during the Burning Man 2013 arts and music festival in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada

It was a familiar scene: an overwrought woman sitting on my sofa crying.

Between sobs the story came out. She had been at church one evening when a young man that she had never seen before entered the sanctuary. Instantly, she believed that God was telling her that he was going to be her husband. She had prayed for a long time that God would bring her a husband, and now, because she was convinced God had spoken to her, she knew this was the man.

Then came the blow. Continue reading ““THE LORD TOLD ME…” OH, REALLY?”

SENSIBLE GIRLS DON’T FALL IN LOVE
